Più precisamente, l'uomo è stato un membro della federazione della Margherita della Val di Cornia ed era stato nominato anche vicecoordinatore nella Provincia di Livorno. In seguito alla nascita del PD, aveva avuto alcuni dissidi con il presidente della Provincia di Livorno Giorgio Kutufà e aveva iniziato a criticare la sezione locale della Margherita.
Dopo la ritira delle sue deleghe ordinata dal segretario provinciale del partito Scatena, Vannucci si era allontanato dalla politica per poi tornare brevemente nel PD nel 2010, prima di abbandonare la stessa attività politica.
