Nach den zwei Erdbeben von Donnerstag und Freitag in der Grössenordnung von 6,4 fand ein grösseres Erdbeben am Freitagabend in Südkalifornien statt. Laut US Geological Survey wurde das neueste Beben mit einer Stärke von 7,1 kurz nach 20:00 Uhr Lokalzeit verzeichnet, dauerte fast 40 Sekunden und der Ursprung war nur weniger als einem Kilometer tief.
Das Epizentrum liegt unter der Stadt Ridgecrest ca. 240 Kilometer von Los Angeles entfernt. Es wurden diverse Schäden verzeichnet, Gas- und Wasserleitungen sind gerissen, Feuer sind ausgebrochen und auf den Strassen haben sich Risse gebildet. Nach dem Hauptbeben wurden zahlreiche Nachbeben gespürt. Dieses neueste Beben ist das grösste seit 20 Jahren.
Der Zeitunterschied zu Europa ist -9 Stunden, also fand das Erdbeben um 5:00 Uhr unserer Zeit am Samstagmorgen statt.
