Hanna Payne has a murder charge on her the docket. Her attorney called her a good Samaritan.
During an evening commute on Tuesday, Payne decided to follow a pickup truck after she saw it hit another vehicle on a local Atlanta highway. The woman confronted 62-year old Kenneth Herring as he tried to drive away from a wreck he caused.
Payne decided to follow him about a mile to a place near the Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. She decided to corner her Jeep near the truck to prevent the man from proceeding further.
The shooter's Jeep blocked the victim's Ram truck. She exited the vehicle and shot him at point blank range.
There was a confrontation between the woman and the man. The woman then pulled out her firearm and shot him in the abdomen.
Herring would later die from his injuries. Payne who has a concealed carry license claimed that she was defending herself from potential harm.
A witness flagged down an officer directing traffic near Interstate 285 (The Perimeter). The witness informed the law that the woman shot a man in the street.
Tearful shooter claims she shot Kenneth Herring in self-defense.
Clayton County boys quickly arrested her. They said that this isn't a road rage incident. Payne wasn't the person involved in the accident. The prosecutors say that there's enough evidence to place on the woman.
Payne did call 911 to report that she shot the man. While the audio isn't going to be release to the junk food media, the incident has gotten the nation's attention.
Herring’s estranged wife Christine told the local junk food media that Payne should have waited for officers to arrive instead of taking action herself.
“Why would you get out? That means you weren't in no danger if you got out of your car to go to his car,” Christine Herring told the outlet.
“I think she needs to go to jail because she committed murder. You need to go to jail,” she added.
