You should probably see Endgame before you see this trailer.

For the first time in Marvel history, a spoiler warning appears before one of its trailers. The newest trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home opens with a cautionary message from Tom Holland, a.k.a. Spider-Man himself. And it’s for good reason: The trailer and the movie very clearly take place after and reference the events of Marvel’s currently-in-theaters juggernaut Avengers: Endgame.

Suffice to say, if you haven’t seen Endgame but decide to watch the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, you should prepare yourself for spoilers.

Far From Home sees Peter Parker grieving and trying to navigate life after Tony Stark sacrificed himself to save the world in Endgame. Parker looked up to Stark and the two had a father-son type of relationship, so naturally, Parker — as well as Stark’s longtime friend and chauffeur Happy — are pretty torn up about Tony’s sacrifice.

But even though Stark is gone, it doesn’t mean that crime or trouble stops. Parker, as Nick Fury tells him in the new trailer, has to take on new responsibilities now that Marvel’s original trio of Stark, Steve Rogers, and Thor have died, gotten old, and gone to another galaxy with the Guardians, respectively.

This directive clashes with Parker’s yearning to spend time with his friends Michelle (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) — who both seem to have been snapped and resurrected along with Parker in Infinity War and then Endgame, making them the same age as Parker instead of five years older — and enjoy a trip to Europe.

The new trailer’s biggest mystery, meanwhile, concerns Jake Gyllenhaal’s villain Mysterio, who seems to be cozy with Parker. Mysterio is perceived as a hero — as he was in Far From Home’s first trailer — and gives Parker some advice in this new one. And while Mysterio feels like an obvious bait and switch, we don’t know his exact motives yet (though taking advantage of a post-Iron Man world seems to be one); Far From Home will be our opportunity to find out.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Far From Home will be the first official Marvel movie (despite being made in collaboration with Sony) to come out after Avengers: Endgame. Though Marvel has other films in the pipeline — including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and a sequel to 2018’s smash hit Black Panther that will bring back Ryan Coogler to write and direct — Spider-Man’s next solo adventure will set the pace and lead off the next group of Marvel films in a post-Endgame world.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in theaters on July 2, 2019.
