The American and Australian junk food media is covering the verdict of dirty cop Mohamed Noor.
He was the cop that shot and killed Australian woman Justine Rusczyk Damond in 2016. Her death was one of the many events in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metroplex that got coverage.
While I am satisfied this dirty cop will face time in the iron college, I start to remind myself over how many other cops managed to shoot unarmed men of color and still walk.
Damond's death happened in the period of Philando Castile, the school worker who was gunned down by a Falcon Heights cop who shot him after a routine pull-over.
Noor showed no emotion when the verdict was read. His wife did weep and the family of Damond weeped. They were relieved that justice was served.
Noor was a four year member of the Minneapolis Police Department. He and his partner were responding to a call of a possible sexual assault.
There's justice for Justine. However, there's no justice for Philando Castile or Jamarr Clark.
Justine who came out of an alley in her pajamas and slippers went to the patrol car. It spooked Noor and he decided to use his service weapon believing his partner was in danger.
The jury didn't buy this nonsense. They said that he was a callous individual who put the public in danger by the actions committed on that night.
Noor claimed he heard a loud bang and it made him "fear for his life."
His partner, Matthew Harrity, had fear in his eyes, yelled, "Oh Jesus!" and went for his gun but had difficulty pulling it out of the holster.
Noor was fired after the charges were presented to him. He was convicted of third degree murder, second degree manslaughter and reckless endangerment. The second degree murder charge was dropped.
The dirty cop faces up to 30 years in the iron college. He will have a right to appeal his sentence.
Justice for Justine but no justice for Philando or Jamarr. They have been robbed by a system of status quo. Where white cops (including Latino/Native American Geronimo Yanze) can shoot first, cry second and get off the murder charges last. It's a status quo that we must change.
Damond's death led to the mayor of Minneapolis Betsy Hodges to be defeated in the Democratic primary. The new mayor Jacob Frey promised that changes will come.
Minneapolis Police have been scrutinized for the way they handle issues. From the shootings to the white extremists running over people at the Jamarr Clark and Philando Castile protests, the law hasn't really made life better for people of color.
Justine Damond was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. She was engaged to her American boyfriend at the time of her death.
