Baltimore mayor resigns after pressure.
Catherine Pugh resigned from the city of Baltimore as the mayor. The author of Healthy Holly children books found herself wrapped up in a scandal in which she used funds from the city to publish her books.

Her demise as mayor came less than two months after the feds have started an investigation into her misuse of funds.

"I am sorry for the harm that I have caused to the image of the city of Baltimore and the credibility of the office of the mayor," said Pugh in a statement issued by her attorney Steve Silverman.

"Baltimore deserves a mayor who can move our great city forward," said the disgraced mayor as she had been suffering from panic attacks from the investigation.

The feds raided city hall, her business partners and other places within the city. They had placed a handful of city hall administrators on leave and Pugh took a leave of absence while getting paid.

Pugh resigned effectively on Thursday night at 9:00pm.

Council president Bernard Jackson Young (who goes by Jack Young) will serve as acting mayor of the city until the election. He has signaled intentions to run for mayor.

Pugh, a Democrat in the independent city of 604,000 residents is under investigation for alleged "self-dealing" in connection to the sale of thousands of copies of Healthy Holly. Many of those sales went to entities that she had influence over or that sought to do business with the city.

Pugh was elected in 2016 after her predecessor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake signaled she would not run for reelection. Rawlings-Blake was criticized for the unrest in Baltimore after three of the six dirty cops injured Freddie Gray. Gray would die after being held in custody. The cops were acquitted of the murder.

Pugh could face up to 30 years in federal time out if convicted on corruption charges. The suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
