Sta facendo discutere un recente studio universitario incentrato sul cambiamento climatico realizzato negli Stati Uniti D'America. Più specificatamente, si tratta di uno studio di cui è coautore un professore di marketing dell'Università dell'Utah, Aaron R. Brough, insieme ad altri professori di altre università.
Tale studio, pubblicato sul 'Journal of Consumer Research'(1), è stato ripreso su Forbes da Carolyn Centeno Milton con il titolo ( poi cambiato) "What if Toxic Masculinity Is The Reason For Climate Change?"(2). In tale articolo, la Milton ha intervistato lo stesso Brough.
Andando maggiormente nei particolari, lo studio sostiene che l'adattamento di 'politiche green' è associato in modo stereotipato alla femminilità (green-feminine stereotype) e ciò sarebbe la causa per il fatto che diversi uomini tendano a rifiutare le stesse politiche di stampo ambientalista.
Sempre secondo lo studio, ciò sarebbe dovuto anche al fatto che gli uomini tendono ad essere più legati alla loro identità di genere e l'adozione di atteggiamenti green tenderebbe a farli percepire ( sia da sé che dagli altri ) come "femminili".
L'articolo di Forbes e lo studio sono stati criticati, in modo perlopiù ironico, da alcuni media e personalità di orientamento conservatore, tra cui Mark Steyn.
