La 'nuova guerra in Libia' contrappone, come ben si sa, le forze fedeli al generale Haftar alle truppe legate ad al-Serraj. Da un punto di vista geopolitico e relativo alla politica internazionale, la causa di Haftar e di al-Serraj è sostenuta da determinate potenze.
Andando maggiormente nei particolari, la causa di Haftar è appoggiata dalla Francia e dalla Russia così come dall'Arabia Saudita e dagli Emirati Arabi Uniti e, quindi, si hanno 'convergenze' anche tra nazioni che non sono in ottimi rapporti diplomatici.
D'altro canto, la causa di Serraj è sostenuta ufficialmente dall'ONU così come dall'Italia ma anche fortemente dal Qatar e dalla Fratellanza Musulmana.
C'è da dire che questi 'appoggi' rispondono perlopiù a determinati interessi di natura economica e/o geopolitica e sono da considerarsi di natura decisamente 'strumentale'.
