In molti ricorderanno la polemica sulle affermazioni dell'europarlamentare Guy Verhofstadt sul premier italiano Giuseppe Conte. Più precisamente, il leader dell'Alde sostenne che il politico italiano fosse un 'burattino' dei vicepremier Matteo Salvini e Luigi Di Maio.
Recentemente, Le Monde e France 2, ha reso noto che lo stesso Alde di Verhofstadt ha ricevuto 425mila euro da importanti multinazionali.
Più specificatamente, riporta il Fatto Quotidiano, si tratta di giganti corporations come la Bayer ( che dopo l'acquisto della Monsanto è produttrice del Roundup, a base di glifosato) ma anche di Syngenta, Deloitte, Microsoft solo per citarne solo qualcuna.
Tali finanziamenti, avvenuti nel 2014, sono certamente legali ma hanno destato perplessità in quanto potrebbero far sospettare eventuali 'conflitti d'interesse' o far riflettere sul potere di condizionamento di lobby e corporations nell'UE.
