INJURIES, REBOUNDING DOOM CARDS WBB VS. Irish
 |
| Our buds, the best at what they do, down in Greensboro |
The bad news started rolling in early Sunday. First, we found out Sam Fuehring had a hairline fracture of the nose...suffered yesterday "in a basketball move" (yeah, right...) against NC State. Then, 30 minutes before the tip against Notre Dame, we learned Arica Carter would not play against the Irish...suffering knee ailments.
Down two starters, it did not bode well for the Cards.
Sam went, with a nose guard, but just for 12 minutes and also rolled her ankle in the first half. Arica did not and Notre Dame, at full strength, used their height advantage to give Louisville a 99-79 loss Sunday afternoon in the ACC WBB Tournament finals in the Greensboro Coliseum.
One was hoping maybe Durr and company could get out to a quick start, go on a run and hold off the Irish.

| Monkey socks. In suits and ties? Our boys representing... |
It didn't happen. 27-17 after one, and Louisville never led in the contest.
I won't go into the specifics.
The Cards lost and they move on to waiting to see if they lose the #1 line ranking for the NCAA Tournament. I see Mississippi State, who won the SEC Tournament final by 30+, passing UofL and the Cards dropping to a #2.
Maybe that's good. Maybe Louisville can get the Greensboro or Chicago Region and avoid Portland and Albany. We wonder, wait and wish the best in healing and rest for Arica and Sam.
Charlie Creme sees Oregon as a #1 seed, with Notre Dame, UConn and Baylor.
Charlie Creme is an idiot.

Sam was selected to the second team for the ACC All-Tournament team. Asia made the first squad with Mangakalia (Syracuse)., Shepherd (Notre Dame), Cunane (NC State) and MVP Jackie Young (Notre Dame).
Notre Dame was the dominant team Sunday. The Cards will have to probably get by them at some point in the upcoming NCAA Tournament if they want a National Championship in 2019. Third time charm?
We can only hope...
THE FRED REPORT
 |
| "How many Cards were out of action?" |
FREE THROWS -- 13-16 for the Cards. That's 75%, but free throws were not a factor today. Don't get me started of "fouls that should have been". I'll give out a CAPITAL F anyway.
REBOUNDS -- Ugh. Cards lose this battle against the Irish 44-39. Bionca battled the Irish bigs with heart and had eight grabs. No letter here.
EFFORT/EXECUTION -- Louisville was trying, despite the injuries but Notre Dame swept the "hustle" stats...points in paint, off turnovers, assists and second chance points. No letter here either.
DEFENSE -- The Irish ran up 99 points and 72 of those came in the paint. Notre Dame shot over 50% and Louisville managed just three steals. Once again, no letter.
FINAL FRED TALLY -- F-_-_-_
SOFTBALL SLAMS MERCER 14-0
In the final day of the War Eagle Challenge Sunday morning, Louisville put up all their 14 runs in the first three innings and won the run-ruled contest by two touchdowns.
Megan Hensley with a strong performance, allowing two hits and striking out five in the circle -- plus getting three RBI's at the plate. A great weekend for the "hit and catch" Cards...going 4-1 and outscoring foes 37-7.
Louisville will face Morehead next, a Tuesday 4 p.m. first pitch out a Ulmer. C'mon out!
LACROSSE LOSES IN THREE O.T's TO DUKE
Teeter's team gave the #15 Dookies all they could handle but eventually fell in the third overtime 11-10. Moved from Saturday and the lightning and rain, Louisville held a 6-5 halftime lead and also had a chance to win with 20 seconds in regulation with a shot that went just wide.
Tessa Chad with four goals for the Cards, her fifth "hat trick" of the season.
The Cards go to 2-6 on the season, Duke improves to 6-1.
Louisville plays again Tuesday, when they visit Pittsburgh and face Duquesne at noon.
Have a great Monday!
Paulie
