Japan and Philippines are in talks for acquisition of 4 to 5 radars and additional excess aircraft, National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said at the turnover ceremony of UH-1 Huey helicopter spare parts donated by Japan to Philippine Air Force (PAF) on March 19.

Secretary Lorenzana said everything is still on the pipeline, however, the Philippines is interested in acquiring military equipment from Japan.

The defense chief said he is in talks with his Japanese counterpart Defense Minister Gen Nakatani for the acquisition of radars and excess aircraft.

In December 2018, Secretary Lorenzana confirmed that Japan is offering to sell radars to Philippines.

“Yes, they are offering to us their latest radars. It is one of the platforms being evaluated by the PAF. To monitor aircraft and seacrafts traversing, entering or leaving our territory,” he said in December 2018.
