Saat Kementerian Pertahanan melakukan Mid Life Modernization (MLM) untuk KRI Fatahillah 361 terpilihlah Ultra Command and Control System (Ultra Electronics) dan Nobiskrug (TKMS) sebagai main contractor. Karena ada persyaratan harus bekerja sama dengan mitra lokal maka ditunjuklah BUMN PT Dok dan Perkapalan Surabaya serta PT LEN.
Dalam proses MLM pada KRI Fatahillah sistem senjata dan interior kapalnya tidak termasuk dalam kontrak, sehingga badan kapal, mesin, propeler beserta sistem sensor dan Combat Management System menggunakan peralatan baru, lama pekerjaan 28 bulan.
Korvet kedua kelas ini yaitu KRI Malahayati 362, untuk main contractor yang terpilih pada bulan Oktober 2016 adalah Indra dan Navantia, keduanya merupakan perusahaan Spanyol. kemudian memilih mitra lokal adalah PT PAL dan pekerjaan dilakukan di Surabaya.

Lingkup pekerjaan yang dilakukan adalah hampir sama meliputi perbaikan lambung kapal, repowering, general overhaul dan penggantian Combat Management System. Untuk peralatan barunya, Indra dan Navantia telah menyiapkan paket untuk KRI Malahayati 362.
Saat ini KRI Malahayati telah keluar dok, bukan berarti pekerjaan MLM telah selesai, paket pekerjaan bodi kapal dan repowering telah selesai, namun untuk pekerjaan elektronik kapal masih belum selesai. Jika mengacu pada jangka waktu 28 bulan maka akan jatuh tempo pada bulan April-Mei ini. Kita berharap agar pekerjaan dapat diselesaikan tepat waktu.
Korvet Fatahillah class dibuat oleh galangan kapal Wilton-Fijenoord, Schiedam, Belanda pada tahun 1980. Korvet dengan berat 1.450 ton dan panjang 84 m ini terdiri dari 3 yaitu KRI Fatahillah 361, KRI Malahayati 362, dan KRI Nala 363. Dengan demikian masih satu korvet lagi untuk dilakukan MLM dalam waktu dekat.
