Ireland Is Ready to Increase Trade with Russia After Brexit
Ireland is ready to increase its commodity turnover with the Russian Federation after Brexit in order to fill loss of income from the gap with Great Britain, said the coordinator of the friendship group between the parliaments of Ireland and Russia Fergus O’Dowd.
On February 12th the State Duma held a meeting of deputies of the State Duma and parliamentarians from Ireland. During the meeting the deputy Sergey Marinin (Liberal Democratic Party of Russia) asked a question about a possible increase in commodity turnover between the two countries after Brexit.
According to him, the trade revenues of Ireland may be reduced because of the exit of Great Britain from the EU, which the Russian Federation may compensate for.
“Yes, of course. Of course, we want to both develop trade and increase it. The trade volume (between the Russian Federation and Ireland) is currently half a billion (dollars), which shows that it is necessary to develop our trade relations further”, said O’Dowd.
Great Britain is supposed to leave the European Union on March 29th, however the existing draft agreement on the “divorce” still hasn’t been ratified and hasn’t acquired enough support from British parliamentarians.
