La multinazionale a partecipazione statale ha acquisito per circa 3,3 miliardi di dollari il 20% di Adnoc Refining, società di raffinazione di proprietà dello stato asiatico. Adnoc Refining fa parte di Adnoc, compagnia petrolifera di Stato di Abu Dhabi.
Si tratta dell'operazione più rilevante mai condotta negli Emirati da un investitore straniero in campo energetico. Con questa operazione l'azienda del cane a sei zampe aumenta del 35% la propria capacità di raffinazione, e rafforza la presenza in un'area strategica per i commerci.
Alla firma dell'accordo erano presenti per l'Italia il primo ministro Giuseppe Conte e l'amministratore delegato di Eni, Claudio Descalzi. Per gli Emirati arabi hanno partecipato lo sceicco Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Principe della Corona di Abu Dhabi, e il ministro Ahmed Al Jaber, amministratore delegato di Adnoc.
Descalzi spiega così le ragioni dell'accordo: "L'operazione è in linea con la nostra strategia volta a rendere il portafoglio di Eni maggiormente diversificato dal punto di vista geografico, più bilanciato lungo la catena del valore, più efficiente e più resiliente rispetto alla volatilità del mercato". Soddisfatto il premier Conte: "È un grande risultato frutto delle elevate competenze sviluppate da una nostra azienda partecipata, Eni, che sta contribuendo ad affermare nel mondo l'eccellenza italiana in campo energetico, con attenzione particolare a tutti i processi che riducono la componente carbonica".
La compagnia Adnoc ha comunicato di aver ceduto anche un 15% di Adnoc Refining agli austriaci di Omv. Le tre aziende, Eni, Adnoc e Omv, daranno vita a una Joint Venture dedicata alla commercializzazione dei prodotti petroliferi.
