Questa vicenda lascia intravedere uno dei buchi neri nelle modalità con cui siamo soliti leggere (e narrare) la storia occidentale degli ultimi 150 anni (almeno).
Siamo abituati a leggere la storia in termini di ideologie e guerre, diplomatici ed eserciti, condottieri e partiti, e anche in termini economici, come carestie, crisi, progressi, ma del ruolo cruciale avuto dalla finanza come arma internazionale non si discute praticamente mai.
Eppure la succitata mossa della Banca d’Inghilterra, che fonde pacificamente politica e finanza, è parte di un perenne, ricorrente non detto.
Nelle nostre narrazioni storiche la finanza è di solito qualcosa che si ritiene avvenga in un mondo separato ed asettico, da cui ogni tanto viene giù una grana (come la crisi del ’29), ma che sostanzialmente ha ben poco a che fare con la politica vera.
Invece si potrebbe scrivere (forse qualcuno l’ha già scritta, lo ignoro) un’intera storia del mondo occidentale solo dal punto di vista delle manovre ostili, dei ricatti, dei trabocchetti creati sul piano (proverbialmente ‘pacifico’) della finanza.
La finanza è un’arma internazionale, manipolata e puntata di volta in volta da alcuni contro altri. L’idea della separazione tra la sfera dei ‘mercati finanziari’ e quella della politica internazionale è sostanzialmente un falso ben congegnato, perché i ‘mercati finanziari’ sono come sistemi caotici, dove la molteplicità degli errori si annullano a vicenda, SALVO quando c’è un input esterno ben indirizzato, che rompe l’equilibrio del sistema creando uno sbilanciamento, spesso letale.
E pensare che questi input, anche quando provengono apparentemente da agenti privati, necessariamente di grandi dimensioni, siano privi di indirizzo politico è o grave ingenuità o omissiva complicità.
