Good morning everyone. Just a brief note to let you know why I have not been posting as frequently as in the past. Since last summer I have been dealing with ever worsening arthritis in both knees. It is very painful and I cannot sit for long periods. It has affected both my blogging and my wood carving although I am very motivated to create the cane depicted above.
I've tried all kinds of remedies and, although several have worked briefly, none has worked more than a day or so. I have an appointment with a rheumatologist but she's so busy it will be 10 weeks before I get to see her. In the meantime, I'm living on painkillers....and trying to adjust my diet to eliminate all the many foods that exacerbate arthritis....such as sugar, salt and acidic foods like tomatoes and oranges...who knew that oranges could be harmful to the health!?
The "good news" is that having such chronic pain has given me a lot more empathy for others who have to deal with arthritis and other such ailments. While previously, I would walk through a mall or a park or some other place where people gather and be oblivious to people hobbling around in pain...now I see them everywhere! I had no idea that so many people lived with pain on a daily basis.
The other good news is that I'm becoming an expert on how to mitigate the pain and, with constant adjustments to my daily regime, I'm slowly gaining control over this very common side effect of longevity. As I do, I will return to the avocations that I love...blogging and carving.
