Paura e gente in strada nei paesi vicini all’epicentro del
terremoto di magnitudo 4.8 registrato alle 3,19 di questa notte, 26 dicembre, con epicentro tra Viagrande e Trecastagni in provincia di Catania. Si tratta della scossa più violenta da quando è cominciata, il 24 dicembre, l’eruzione dell’
Etna.
Il centro più colpito è
Fleri, una frazione di Zafferana Etnea, ma si registrano danni a Santa Venerina dove sono caduti calcinacci dalla facciata della chiesa principale Santa Maria del Carmelo in Bongiardo, a Zafferana Etnea e nell’Acese. I danni sono evidenti in diversi paesi e ci sono almeno dieci feriti lievi tra i quali un uomo di 80 anni estratto dalla casa gravemente danneggiata, a Fleri.
È stato chiuso precauzionalmente al traffico un tratto dell’autostrada Catania-Messina, la A18, per la presenza di ‘lesioni’ sospette sull’asfalto createsi dopo la scossa. Il blocco è tra i caselli di Acireale e Giarre. L’eventuale riapertura sarà decisa dopo sopralluoghi e verifiche su sicurezza e stabilità del tratto autostradale al momento chiuso al traffico.
L’intensa attività sismica sul vulcano al momento non ha alcun impatto sull’attività dell’aeroporto internazionale di Catania, che è pienamente operativo. Molta gente, impaurita, è scesa per strada.
Nelle due riunioni del Centro coordinamento soccorsi convocato dal prefetto di Catania, Claudio Sammartino, è stato tracciato un primo bilancio provvisorio dei danni, con i crolli di muri e case e danni a chiese, soprattutto a Fleri. Il prefetto ha fatto aprire scuole e palestre comunali per accogliere le persone che non possono o non vogliono rientrare nella propria casa, perché inagibile o per paura. L’assistenza è stata delegata alla Croce rossa.
