Nel vertice di governo di domenica scorsa a Palazzo Chigi si era ragionato sull'ipotesi di riscuotere l'Imu, applicando, con una norma ad hoc, la sentenza della Corte di Giustizia dell'Unione Europea che imponeva alla Chiesa di pagare l'Ici sugli immobili commerciali e al governo di recuperarla, riformando una decisione della Commissione che escludeva la chiesa dal pagamento della tassa negli anni 2008-2012 in virtù del fatto che fosse impossibile riscuoterla. Ma, muovendosi in questa direzione, gli introiti sarebbero finiti nelle casse dei Comuni. Da qui la decisione del governo di "ripiegare" sull'Ires. Per il Vaticano l'esenzione Ires vale quasi un miliardo di euro.
