Ukrainians May Start 2019 Without a Water Supply
On the first day of 2019 water utilities throughout the whole country may be left without electricity, therefore the supply of water to houses and the apartments of residents of Ukraine will be stopped.
The corresponding statement was made by the press service of the Kiev City State Administration (KCSA) on December 20th.
As was noted by the department, the cause is the law “On the Market of Electricity Energy”, according to which water utilities must give 100% of prepayment to suppliers of electricity. For this purpose enterprises need to sign new contracts with electricity supplying organisations before January 1st. In such a contract isn’t signed, water utilities throughout the whole country will be left without electricity.
At the same time, according to the information of the KCSA website, at the moment water utilities cannot provide full prepayment since currently the tariffs for enterprises supplying the residents of Ukraine with water do not cover the cost for electricity.
In addition, the majority of water utilities still did not receive compensation from the state for the difference in tariffs. Thus, money for the repayment of privileges and subsidies for the population still hasn’t arrived from the budget.
To date the water utilities of Ukraine owe about 5.8 billion hryvnia for electricity. The greatest debts are in the Kharkov, Donetsk, and Lugansk regions.
