“We Just Want to Live in Peace”: Lugansk Honoured the Memory of Deceased Soviet Soldiers

The event “Candle of Memory” devoted to the Day of the unknown soldier took place on Sunday in Lugansk’s Gorky park near the mass grave of soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the correspondent of the Federal News Agency.
Activists of patriotic organisations, students of the economic-legal lyceum, deputies of the People’s Council, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the LPR, and also representatives of the public association “Memorial” participated in the event.
The public figure of the LPR Sergey Belov noted that directly from here, from Gorky park, that yesterday’s school students and ordinary civilians who who worked at the factories, studied, and dreamed of a bright and peaceful life, entered the Red Army in 1941.
“These people rose in defense of their land. From here, from precisely Gorky Park, they left to defend the borders of their Motherland from fascist troops. Many of them did not come back home. Some them remained ‘unknown soldiers’,” said Belov.
One of the participants of the event, the activist of the “Patriotic Association of Donbass” Levon Akopdzhanyan, said: “We gathered here today in Gorky Park near the monument to the Unknown soldier to honour the memory of the hero soldiers, who died for us to have a happy and bright future. Absolutely all soldiers, not only those who defended us and still defend to this day the borders of the LPR, but also all soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War”.
“With this event we want to show all the international community, which does not want to listen to us, to reckon with our opinion. We show that we are ordinary people here, nobody is at war with anybody, we just want to live here and defend our position quietly. And we will continue to do this until they reckon with us,” added the activist of “Patriotic Association of Donbass”.
The participants of the event laid fresh flowers in front of the monument of the Unknown soldier and observed a minute’s silence in memory of all perished soldiers.
