In the First Half of 2018 Almost 4 Million Ukrainians Visited Russia

In the first half of 2018 Russia was visited by more than 3.9 million citizens of Ukraine, 3.6 million of who visited Russia for private purposes, 310,000 arrived in the country on business visits, and 13,500 – as tourists. The corresponding statistics was received by the Russian “Izvestia” newspaper, having studied the data of the FSB of Russia.
“In comparison with the same period of the previous year, a growth was noted noted in the sphere of tourism. In general there was a small decline, which can be connected to the migration of citizens to Russia”.
Thus, according to Rosstat, from 2014 to 2017 638,200 residents of Ukraine moved to the Russian Federation.
At the same time, as the newspaper notes, the Verkhovna Rada recognised that, despite the policies of the Kiev authorities, Ukrainians will continue to go to the neighbouring country, in particular, to earn money. According to Gosstat, in 2017 the frequency of trips of Ukrainian citizens to Russia grew by 13.4% in comparison with last year. This is confirmed by the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation, which reported that as of the middle of March, 2017 the total number of Ukrainians who are on the territory of Russia is 2.33 million people.
And in the first half of 2018, according to information of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine obtained on the basis of these mobile operators, 17.3 million subscribers went abroad. At the same time, Ukrainians carry out 60% of their travels in neighbouring countries. Most often they visit Poland, Russia, Hungary, Moldova, Belarus, Romania, and Slovakia.
In addition, over the first two years after the coup d’etat in Ukraine in 2014 Russian citizenship was gained by 300,000 Ukrainians — and this doesn’t include Crimea and IDPs from Donbass.
It is possible to assume that in the near future this number will be many times more, since at the end of October the President of Russia Vladimir Putin approved by a decree the new Concept of the state migration policy for 2019-2025 prescribing to open up Russia for everyone who wants to live and work there, in particular, to simplify the rules of entry and procedures for granting Russian citizenship. The legislation was simplified, first and foremost, for Ukrainians.
