Democratic lawmaker Kyrsten Sinema might win the Arizona U.S. Senate seat.
Could the state of Arizona swing in favor of the Democrats?
It's not over.
Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) are locked in a tie and there's an automatic recount in progress. The U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Jeff Flake has been one of the most bitter.
Whoever wins this will become the first woman to represent Arizona as a U.S. Senator.
The Sun Belt is looking likely to swing in favor of Democrats.
McSally had a her lead shrink over the past 48 hours. The lead has shifted in favor of Sinema.
McSally who is a former U.S. Air Force Colonial and two term congresswoman. The lawmaker is hoping to carry the mantle of Donald J. Trump. McSally thought this would be easy. She was clearly favored to win this spot. However, Arizonans want a Maverick.
Sinema is an openly bisexual woman who vows to support Donald J. Trump when it comes to border security. Sinema puts on this act of being a middle of the road lawmaker. It was not helpful to progressive base who felt she betrayed the cause.
The lead for Sinema is 30,000 votes ahead of McSally.
Republican Martha McSally is casting doubt on the recount. She is losing and she wants to rile Republicans up into attacking poll watchers.
"Election Officials estimate about 195,000 of these are early ballots, provisional and out-of-precinct ballots that voters cast or dropped off on Election Day," according to a news release from the Maricopa County Recorder's Office. "Additionally, about 3,000 early ballots that the Elections Department received before Nov. 6 must be tabulated."
Arizona continues to count the ballots and more than 260,000 remain as of Saturday, AZCentral reported. McSally would have to win at least 150,000 of the 260,000 votes left to reclaim the lead and of those 260,000 votes left, at least 125,000 are from Maricopa County, where Phoenix is. That's 57.7 percent of the ballots left that McSally would have to win.
