L’Arabia Saudita fornisce nuovi dettagli sull’uccisione di Jamal Khashoggi nel consolato di Istanbul. Un funzionario, rimasto anonimo, ha precisato che il giornalista è morto soffocato dopo che gli agenti incaricati di riportarlo in patria «hanno cercato di immobilizzarlo e gli hanno tappato la bocca per impedirgli di urlare».
Uno degli agenti avrebbe poi indossato gli abiti del dissidente e sarebbe uscito dal consolato, per far credere che Khashoggi fosse ancora in vita e libero.

I sauditi hanno cambiato versione più volte. Prima hanno detto che la scomparsa di Khashoggi all’interno del consolato era una «fake news» e che aveva lasciato l’edificio «pochi minuti, al massimo un’ora dopo».
Dopo pochi giorni, quando media turchi e occidentali hanno cominciato a sostenere che era stato ucciso, hanno replicato che le accuse erano «senza fondamento».
