Law enforcement officials announced they had arrested the suspect earlier Friday morning.
President Donald Trump spoke at a White House event Friday for black conservatives in the wake of the arrest of a suspect in the case of explosive devices being mailed to top Democratic figures this week.
In his brief remarks at the top of the event, he denounced "political violence" and called the mailings "terrorizing acts."
“We must never allow political violence to take root in America,” he said.
However, the remarks stood in contrast to his comments just a week before at political rally when he praised Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-MT) for having assaulted a reporter who asked him a question about health care in the runup to a 2017 special election.
His reference Friday afternoon to the mailings as "terrorizing acts" also seemed to stand in contrast from his tweet earlier in the day, which had referred to the incident dismissively as "'bomb' stuff" and complained that it had hurt his party's "momentum" going into the 2018 midterm elections.
