Megyn Kelly is out at NBC. Tomi Lahren wants you to know she's outraged.
On Thursday, Megyn Kelly was fired by NBC following her complaint on air that it used to be socially acceptable to dress up in blackface for Halloween.
One person who took immediate umbrage to the firing was Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren, who took to Twitter to rage against the decision:
Love her or hate her, what’s happening to Megyn Kelly is straight bull.
Whatever Lahren thinks, getting rid of Kelly was not really a close call. It was questionable to hire Kelly in the first place, as she had a history of racist rants that predated her move from Fox News to NBC. She once threw a temper tantrum at the idea of a black Jesus or Santa Claus, called Michelle Obama a "baby mama," and said that the black community has a "thug mentality."
This was all known when NBC hired her, and the fact that she took over the slot from two talented black anchors, Al Roker and Tamron Hall, left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths and might partly explain why her show was a ratings flop.
What is more, it's unclear that Kelly is even going to suffer much of a consequence for her actions. While she is out at NBC, she will reportedly still be paid her full $69 million contract that she would have received over three years. Even if she never lands another job — she reportedly wants to return to Fox News, but the network seems unwilling to hire her back — that is more money than most people will ever see in their lifetime.
Lahren should consider why she finds it so unreasonable that a news anchor in a position of prominence should be held accountable for how she does that job.
