Nei suoi pensieri c'è la convinzione: che gli italiani abbiano nostalgia di lui e vorrebbero che tornasse a occuparsi della cosa pubblica.
Non si sa su cosa basi le proprie convinzioni il senatore a vita Mario Monti, che quando ha provato a cimentarsi con le urne (Scelta civica) ha rimediato un clamoroso flop, decidendo poi di ritirarsi sul suo scranno di senatore a vita. Lui però oggi gonfia i muscoli e ai microfoni di 24Mattino, intervistato da Maria Latella e Oscar Giannino (su Radio24), fa sapere che spesso, fermandolo per strada, le persone gli chiedono di tornare in politica.
Aggiunge anche, con ovvio dispiacere, che qualcuno gli augura ogni male: "Ci sono alcuni, devo dire molto molto rari, che mi avvicinano per dire 'auguro a lei e a sua moglie la peggiore delle morti'. Ma l'ex presidente del Consiglio si consola con un dato numerico: "La grande maggioranza delle persone gli chiedono: quando torna professore?'". E lui, fa sapere, risponde in questo modo: "Grazie, ho già dato e anche gli italiani".
Il professore ammette di non essere proprio amato, come forse avrebbe desiderato.
