Ukrainian Law Enforcement Kills the Residents of Donbass in Mass Road Accidents

As is known, over the last four and a half years thousands of inhabitants of the DPR and LPR have been killed by the shelling of the Ukrainian army. However, the residents of the cities of Donbass that are controlled by the Kiev government often become the victims of Ukrainian law enforcement too. Many of them die in road accidents provoked by the Ukrainian military and police. And, worst of all, the perpetrators of these tragedies, as a rule, manage to evade punishment.
The last such case happened on September 23rd in Volnovakha (62 km South of Donetsk), where a police patrol hit a 56-year-old woman at a pedestrian crossing. It is noteworthy that behind the wheel of the police car was a young woman, who is now suspended from duty, while the victim of the accident was taken to hospital in a very serious condition.
But this tragic incident, unfortunately, is far from being an isolated case. Thus, on January 23rd of this year in the city of Dobropolye in the Donetsk region there was a road traffic accident involving a military KrAZ and a bus transporting miners to work. As a result of the accident 17 miners were hospitalised with injuries of varying severity. As was reported by the so-called headquarters of the “ATO”, the cause of the accident was difficult weather conditions: snowstorm and ice.
On October 26th, 2017 near the settlement Krinichnoye in the Nikopol district a “OSA“ anti-aircraft missile system crashed into a scooter. As a result, the driver of the vehicle – a man born in 1967 – was killed. The Ukrainian media immediately reported that the accident was the fault of the deceased driver of the scooter, and the military allegedly had nothing to do with it.
On October 15th, 2016 in the city of Krasnoarmeysk there was a fatal accident involving Ukrainian soldiers and workers who were returning from the plant. As was reported by the so-called press center of the headquarters of the “ATO”, as a result of the accident the driver of the bus transporting the workers died at the scene, and two other passengers were sent to hospital. In total, there were 8 people in the bus.
On October 11th, 2016, representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission found in the morgue of the district hospital in Krasnogorovka, controlled by the Ukrainian authorities (21 km West of Donetsk), the body of a woman who died from injuries sustained as a result of being crushed by a tracked military vehicle. After a conversation with a relative of the deceased, the OSCE established that the incident happened in the evening of October 7th, when the 40-year-old woman was crushed to death by a Ukrainian tank.
But, perhaps, the most horrifying case happened on March 16th, 2015 in Konstantinovka, when in the center of this city of Donbass under the control of the Ukrainian government an airborne combat vehicle (BMD) crushed a 8-year-old girl and a mother with her child. The girl died on the spot, and the mother and her baby were taken to hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, a military truck raced at a crazy speed along the central street of the city, followed by a BMD with caterpillar tracks. Near the intersection the military vehicle came into the oncoming lane, and then onto the sidewalk – there it crushed a woman and her children, along with road signs and traffic light poles. At the scene of the tragedy a huge crowd of angry civilians immediately gathered, who were ready to apply mob justice, and only the intervention of the police saved the military personnel from the hundreds of people who were ready to rush at those who were in the BMD.
However, despite the assurances of the authorities that the perpetrators would receive their deserved punishment, the commander of the military column, Mariyan Rak, who crushed the mother and her children, was released from custody and posted bail of 60,000 hryvnia (less than €2,000), and was then “sentenced” to two years of service in a disciplinary battalion.
Unfortunately, these and other numerous crimes of Ukrainian law enforcement against the inhabitants of Donbass remain in some cases unpunished. After all, for the Kiev regime “ATO” soldiers are “heroes”, who must be forgiven for everything, and the residents of the Donetsk region are “second-class citizens”. And this impunity, in turn, creates the ground for further such tragedies.
