Era alta quattro metri, interamente dorata e pesava due tonnellate e mezzo. La statua che raffigurava il presidente turco Recep Tayyip Erdogan era stata installata lo scorso lunedì a Wiesbaden, in Germania, nell'ambito della Biennale d'arte cittadina.
Ma l'Erdogan dorato non ha resistito più di 24 ore: nella notte tra martedì e mercoledì il Comune ha fatto smontare la statua. Gli organizzatori della mostra avevano chiesto l'autorizzazione per l'installazione di un'opera dalla forma umana, senza precisare che si trattasse del presidente turco. L'obiettivo era quello di scatenare una discussione sul tema delle bad news.
Effettivamente la statua, installata in una piazza intitolata all'Unità tedesca, ma in un quartiere dove vivono molte persone di origine turca, ha scatenato numerose polemiche, al di là delle aspettative dei fautori della mostra, che ha portato a risvolti inattesi: l'installazione che avrebbe dovuto durare tre mesi è stata rimossa immediatmente.
Numerosi i commenti contrari di chi sostiene che
"questa non è arte!" e che la statua
"non può stare qui", perché rappresenta
"il peggiore di tutti i dittatori" e
"sapete come tratta la gente". Un uomo è stato ripreso dalla televisione regionale mentre sputava sull'Erdogan dorato. Altri cittadini, però, hanno difeso l'opera, sostenendo che
"Erdogan è corretto" e brandendo come bandiera la maglia del calciatore Mesut Özil, simbolo dei sostenitori del
presidente turco in Germania. La tensione tra le due fazioni è stata tale da spingere la polizia e il Comune a decidere di rimuovere la statua, aiutati dai mezzi dei vigili del fuoco,
come mostra un video pubblicato su Youtube.
