Lo Zimbabwe ha riconfermato il presidente uscente Emmerson Mnangagwa del partito Zanu-PF in carica da novembre 2017 con una maggioranza di 109 seggi, abbastanza per poter avere la maggioranza in Parlamento
Il suo principale rivale è Nelson Chamisa a cui sono stati per ora assegnati 41 seggi, facente parte del partito Movimento per il Cambio Democratico (MCD). Se Mnangagwa riuscisse ad ottenere altri 30 seggi durante lo spoglio potrebbe avere due terzi del Parlamento, abbastanza per andare a modificare la Costituzione. Sono rimasti 58 seggi da assegnare.
Lo Zimbabwe è arrivato alle elezioni dopo che Mugabe, il presidente che ha governato per quasi quarant'anni è stato deposto attraverso una sorta di colpo di stato architettato proprio dal suo stesso partito, lo Zanu-PF attraverso le pressioni di Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Emmerson Mnangagwa ha tenuto il posto di presidente fino a che lo Zimbabwe non è andato a nuove elezioni.
Non sono mancate le critiche da parte di Chamisa, il quale sostiene che il comitato elettorale stia ritardando la diffusione dei risultati proprio per favorire il partito di Zanu-PF. Questo partito, infatti, esercita ancora un grosso potere sulle forze di sicurezza che controllano il paese.
