A giugno, con i suoi 629 migranti lasciati alla deriva, era diventata un simbolo. L’emblema di una crisi migratoria e diplomatica. Da una parte la Francia che aveva definito «vomitevole» l’atteggiamento del nuovo governo giallo-verde. Dall’altra l’Italia che «chiudeva i porti», come annunciato dal ministro dell’Interno Matteo Salvini, e chiedeva maggiore solidarietà nell’accoglienza da parte degli altri Stati europei. Una lite che aveva messo a rischio il primo incontro a Parigi tra il presidente francese Emmanuel Macron e il premier Giuseppe Conte. Oggi, quasi due mesi dopo, la nave Aquarius riprende il mare con l’obiettivo dichiarato di essere «una sentinella civile del Mediterraneo».
“La Libia non è un porto sicuro”

Frederic Penard, direttore delle operazioni di Sos Mediterranee, denuncia: «Oltre 1100 persone hanno perso la vita nel Mediterraneo centrale dallo scorso gennaio, di cui quasi due terzi (721) dall’inizio di giugno quando ai mezzi di soccorso civile è stato impedito di operare nelle acque internazionali a largo della Libia».
