The U.S. House of Representatives became a pit of screams and personal attacks.
The House of Representatives descended into shouting and personal attacks Thursday as Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) grilled FBI agent Peter Strzok over his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.
The chaos began when Gohmert asked Strzok about an "anomaly" found in Clinton's emails — a detail which Strzok said he did not specifically remember.
"You were given that information, and you did nothing with it!" Gohmert charged. "I watched you in the private testimony you gave, and I told some of the other guys, 'He is really good. He's lying, he knows we know he's lying, and he can probably pass the polygraph.'"
Another lawmaker called for a point of order, challenging that Gohmert was accusing the witness of lying for no reason. Gohmert refused to withdraw the statement, saying that it's not against the rules to impugn a witness.
"There's not a single person on this committee who has ever characterized a witness as lying," the other lawmaker said. "That's a disgrace!"
"No, the disgrace is what this man has done to our justice system! There is the disgrace! And it won't be recaptured any time soon because of the damage you've done to the justice system!" Gohmert shouted, turning back toward Strzok. "And I can't help but wonder when I see you looking there with a little smirk: How many times did you look so innocent into your wife's eyes and lied to her about Lisa Page?"
Groans of disgust emanated from the room.
"Mr. Chairman, this is outrageous!" one lawmaker yelled. "Shame on you," said another. One person yelled out the famous phrase, "Have you no decency?!"
"What's wrong with that!" yet another lawmaker yelled in revulsion, later identified as Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) by The Hill. "You need your medication!"
