He remained defiant about his role in the killing.
Cameron Terrell, 18, of Palos Verdes Estates walked free after being acquitted of first-degree murder in the shooting of black college student Justin Holmes.
Terrell had been out on $5 million bond, posted with $500,000 cash. His parents are interior designer Debra Terrell and media executive Donald Wayne Terrell.
Defense attorney Jovan Blackwell said that Terrell was "at best" a "witness" to the gang crime, based on the evidence.
L.A. County Deputy District Attorney Adan Montalban argued that Terrell was a gang member who knew of the plan. Prosecutors played video for jurors of Terrell kicking over memorial candles for Holmes.
“I don’t have to explain myself to anyone," a defiant Terrell said. "God knows what really happened that day, and God knows what was in my head that day.”
Community activist Melvin Farmer told CBS2, “Two black juveniles are probably facing life sentence to where an adult took them to do something where he should’ve been held responsible just as much."
Terrell now plans to attend college to explore his "newfound love" of law. The black juveniles in the car with Terrell are awaiting their trials.
