L’esplosione fuori dall’ambasciata americana a Pechino è stata provocata da un ordigno fatto detonare da un uomo. È quanto ha confermato un portavoce della sede diplomatica Usa al giornale Hong Kong Free Press. «C’è stata un’esplosione circa all’una del pomeriggio nell’area pubblica all’esterno dell’angolo sud est del compound dell’ambasciata e secondo i funzionari della sicurezza è stata una persona a far detonare un ordigno», ha detto il portavoce, secondo quanto si legge sul sito del giornale.
Dalla polizia cinese non arrivano ancora notizie o conferme ufficiali. Secondo Radio Free Asia, emittente finanziata dagli Stati Uniti, testimoni hanno detto di aver visto un uomo che tentava di gettare un ordigno artigianale oltre la cancellata dell’ambasciata. Ma la bomba è scoppiata accanto a lui.  

L’esplosione avrebbe provocato un numero ancora imprecisato di feriti e danneggiato diverse auto parcheggiate all’esterno della cancellata del compound diplomatico. Testimoni hanno pubblicato foto e video sui social media che mostrano il fumo che circonda l’edificio, qualcuno avrebbe poi visto la polizia portare via una donna che si stava cospargendo in benzina, in quello che è apparso quindi un tentativo di auto-immolazione.
