White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is planning to leave her job by the end of the year, according to a new report from CBS.
Reporter Jacqueline Alemany says that Sanders has shared her decision to leave the administration with friends. Alemany cites "sources inside the White House and close to the administration."
Raj Shah, the deputy press secretary and Sanders' most natural replacement, is also reportedly considering whether to leave his position. The exact dates for both departures have yet to be set.
After the news broke, Sanders sent the following tweet: "Does @CBSNews know something I don’t about my plans and my future? I was at my daughter’s year-end Kindergarten event and they ran a story about my “plans to leave the WH” without even talking to me. I love my job and am honored to work for @POTUS."
It's worth noting, however, that the tweet didn't actually contradict or deny the report.
Sanders has been a figure of rising importance in President Donald Trump's administration since she took over from her predecessor Sean Spicer. She was a part of the team that sat in on Trump's negotiations with the North Koreans this week.
She has also faced intensifying scrutiny in recent months and weeks as Trump's lies — and her parroting them — have begun to catch up with her. She has also never explained why she said Trump didn't know about the hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels when it was later revealed that he had reimbursed his lawyer for the expense.
