L'Italia non si è classificata ai Mondiali e questo ha causato grande frustrazione in molti cittadini appassionati di calcio e non. Insieme a tale fatto è 'incredibilmente' pare che sia incredibilmente riemerso l'amor proprio nazionale della stessa Italia, amor proprio nazionale che era stato relegato al mero ambito calcistico.
Difatti, per tanto tempo le partite della Nazionale sono state l'unico frangente di orgoglio nazionale per tanti cittadini e al di fuori del calcio era tutto un fiorire di autocritiche ed esagerata esterofilia.
Invece ora, complice ovviamente la situazione politica, pare che 'essere italiani' non sia più un motivo di vergogna ma anche un motivo di orgoglio in quanto l'Italia sta riconquistando un ruolo geopolitico fondamentale e molti cittadini si stanno ricordando che lo Stivale è ed è sempre stato un luogo ricco di storia, cultura e identità da valorizzare.
Ovviamente l'amor proprio nazionale e/o il sano nazionalismo(parola considerata ambigua e controversa a causa del suo utilizzo storico, ma qua da intendersi letteralmente e senza accezioni ideologiche) devono essere utilizzati a fini costruttivi e positivi e, comunque sia, c'è da dire che il fatto che l'amor proprio nazionale non sia più limitato al mero calcio è indubbiamente un elemento positivo.
