I have noticed that if I restart my system sometimes it will open programs that were running just before restart / shut down even if said programs were closed out properly and no longer running at the time I hit "restart".

Example: This morning my system was still on from last night and had Microsoft Word, Chrome and a few file explorer windows open. I closed all these programs normally and then restarted my system to refresh it. On restart I notice that the system has launched microsoft word, minimized to the taskbar, with a blank document.

The same thing happens to me with Excel, Chrome and sometimes file explorer. From what it seems it's when I am running the program within a few minutes of shut down. They will all launch on the home screen or blank document, always running minimized in the taskbar.

It's almost like the system trying to restore running programs after a hard crash or something but these were all shut down correctly.

I checked control panel for programs that run on startup and none of these are in there. I have checked the individual settings for these programs but cannot find anything. I tried to search on google for windows settings but was having trouble finding an answer.

Is there a setting somewhere that is trying to be helpful by re-launching these programs? I want to disable it to keep my startup light.

Thank you for any help this has been driving me nuts.
