I recently swapped out my old motherboard and PSU for new ones, as well as getting a nicer case for my computer. I did some research and asked a few questions regarding licensing switches with respect to a new motherboard, but I was pretty sure it was going to be relatively straightforward.

However, after piecing together the components and powering up the computer, I've been met with seemingly random freezes at any point. Here's how the cycle goes:

  1. Power up the computer

  2. Screen turns on, then the bios prompt screen loads (hit "del" to go to BIOS, F11 for boot order)

  3. If I wait for the thing to boot, it will either freeze at a black screen, or go straight into a light blue "Recovery" page, citing a 0x0000428 usually, amongst other error codes.

  4. So now I try going into BIOS and changing boot order so I can clean install from a bootable USB. It freezes a lot and it is pretty infrequent that I can get into the BIOS. Eventually I changed the boot order to prioritize booting from a USB and I download the boot media from microsoft.

  5. I try booting using a burned ISO image onto the USB and also simply from the USB tool that the Media Creation Tool provides. Both options leads to blue "recovery" screens that gives me a stopcode and tells me that my PC needs to be repaired.

The stopcodes vary but usually I get:

0xc0000007b - OS can't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors (cites winload.efi)

0xc0000221 - header checksum does not match computed checksum (cites winload.exe)

0xc0000428 digital signature not verified

There was one attempt where I was able to reach the blue windows logo reminiscent of installing a new OS, but it went straight to a black and white text output in the middle of the screen telling me that "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware/software change might be the cause." and then instructs me to insert an installation disc (I guess boot media?) and repair the computer.... the only problem being that is exactly how I got to that stage.

Given the prompts in the blue recovery screen (e.g. hit enter to try again, esc for BIOS, F8 for startup settings), hitting any of these will just cause the screen to blink and load the same recovery page again. I am unable to boot in safe mode, pull up advanced trouble shooting, or open a command prompt.

Please help!!
