Si chiama Hannes ed è una mano bionica – realizzata in Italia nel Rehab Technologies Lab – che simula al 90 per cento i movimenti delle mani naturali. Un ulteriore passo verso l’uomo artificiale che, nel frattempo, avrà un impatto nella vita di tutti i giorni. Perché? Rispetto ad altri dispositivi realizzati in passato, è economica, facile da indossare e non richiede interventi chirurgici. E verrà commercializzata a partire dal 2019.
“È una mano figlia dei robot“, ha dichiarato Roberto Cingolani, il direttore scientifico dell’Istituto italiano di tecnologia (Iit), ente che nel dicembre 2013 ha dato vita al laboratorio in collaborazione con l’Inail. Un progetto nato grazie a un investimento da 7,5 milioni per lo sviluppo di protesi di nuova generazione. “È una dimostrazione di come la tecnologia possa aprire grandi opportunità a livello sociale”, ha aggiunto il presidente dell’Iit Gabriele Galateri di Genola.
La storia della mano Hannes è iniziata nel 2003, con il robot iCub. Ma è nel 2015 che è arrivata la svolta: il team di fisici, ingegneri, esperti di robotica e di software, terapisti e pazienti è riuscito a creare un prototipo funzionante, in grado di ricevere gli impulsi nervosi trasmessi dal cervello attraverso i muscoli e di muoversi come una mano naturale. Ora l’organo hi-tech, chiamato in onore di Hannes Schmidl, il primo direttore tecnico del centro protesi dell’Inail a Budrio e autore nel 1965 della prima mano basata sulla mioelettrica, è pronto per essere lanciato sul mercato.
“Posso piegare le dita con la forza voluta e cominciare a dimenticare di dover usare sempre la mano sinistra”, ha detto Marzo Zambelli, che ha perso quella destra per un infortunio di lavoro quando aveva 15 anni. Grazie alla protesi bionica, Zambelli è riuscito a stringere la mano al ministro del Lavoro Giuliano Poletti, presente all’evento organizzato a Roma da Iit e Inail.
E ora gli scienziati guardano al futuro: l’obiettivo di Rehab Technologies Lab è quello di consentire la percezione del tatto. Ma anche di realizzare esoscheletri per camminare, mani e gambe hi-tech, organi stampati in 3D. Un percorso che, prima o poi, porterà all’uomo artificiale. Proprio come gli androidi di Westworld, impossibili da riconoscere rispetto agli umani, che ora iniziano a sembrare sempre meno fantascientifici e più vicini alla realtà.
