The performing arts organization released a statement denouncing the comedian who was convicted of sexual assault.

Bill Cosby was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 1998 and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2009. Both have been rescinded.

“The Honors and Mark Twain Prize are given to artists who, through their lifetime of work, have left an indelible impact on American culture,” the Kennedy Center said in a press statement.

“As a result of Mr Cosby’s recent criminal conviction, the board concluded that his actions have overshadowed the very career accomplishments these distinctions from the Kennedy Center intend to recognize.”

A 12-member jury in Pennsylvania found Cosby guilty on all three counts of sexual assault last month. Cosby assaulted Andrea Constand at his Philadelphia mansion in January 2004.

Cosby was recently expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, best known for awarding the annual Oscars. The convicted comedian also lost a number of honorary academic degrees.
