Trump called the New York Times reporter's story false, only to later prove that it was true.
Even when it's completely unnecessary, President Donald Trump seems incapable of refraining from lying.
CNN's Anderson Cooper documented this fact Wednesday night in the opening segment of his show. Cooper noted that the day's news that Trump's lawyer Ty Cobb was leaving the president's legal team and attorney Emmet Flood was coming on board had been predicted in a New York Times article a couple months back by reporter Maggie Habrman.
"And how do you think the president responded when Maggie Haberman reported that story?" Cooper asked. "Well tonight, it sure appears he lied about it. Back when Maggie reported this nearly two months ago, the president went out of his way to tell a falsehood about it the very next morning and attacked Haberman as well."
In a tweet, Trump had completely denied that he was seeking to shake up his legal team and said the Times report was wrong. Now, two of the men he said were doing a "great job" have left the legal team, and Flood, who Haberman has said was in talks with the president, has been brought on.
"It shows you a lot about his honesty," Cooper noted.
Trump also has previously attacked Haberman as someone he had nothing to do with and that he never talks to, despite ample evidence that they have had numerous interactions and the fact that she has conducted interviews with him.
