I have two systems: Dell Precision Tower 3420 running Windows 10 (work computer) and an Asus Zenbook running Windows 10 (personal laptop). Both are relatively new machines. I also have an external hard drive, a WD MyPassport. I work on this external hard drive, mostly going GIS work with ArcMap, but also saving Word documents and PDFs and sometimes working in another software called ENVI (remote sensing software). The hard drive connects to my Zenbook via the USB A to C converter thing provided by Asus with the Zenbook.
Yesterday I worked all day on the Dell work computer, working off of the external hard drive. On that external hard drive, I deleted an ArcMap document, created a new map document, and then created a ton of spatial data and a Word doc on the hard drive.
Went home to work on some stuff on the external hard drive on the Zenbook, but when I plugged it in, everything was reverted back to what it looked like before I worked on it yesterday. Luckily, I had decided to back most of it up onto my work computer, but I need to make sure this isn't going to be happening again because all of this data is for my Master's thesis.
Today when I came into work to restore things on the external from my work computer, I plugged it in, and Windows notified me that there was an issue with the hard drive and that it needed to scan it. I let it do that and it said it fixed the issue but did not tell me anything about what the issue was. When I looked at the external hard drive, a few files were restored but it was not even the first files I put on there yesterday.
Please help! I've tried Googling and asking friends and have come up with nothing. This is such a strange issue.
