I have a decent internet connection (Speedtest) -note that I'm usually connected via wifi, I get faster speeds when I plug an Ethernet cord) and usually have no issue playing online. Sometimes my wifi USB adapter has some issues and I just have to unplug it then plug it back and I'm good. Wifi adapter model and other specs below.
On 5/9 as I was playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, my ping got really high. Something around 200ms. As I said, it does this sometimes so I just went and unplugged/plugged my wifi adapter. It didn't fix my ping this time. Then I went to play Overwatch and still had a very high ping. 5 days later I still have this issue. I've reset my modem, checked the frequencies in the modem interface, etc. Everything's seems normal. If anything's wrong with my modem then it's on my ISP side. I should mention that I live in France and my ISP is Altice-SFR, a.k.a. Numericable. I went and plugged my PC via Ethernet instead of wifi. The same issue still happens.
Here's Overwatch netgraph. Please note that this was recorded while I was connected via wifi but my ping doesn't get better via Ethernet, I've tried it. Also, my ping doesn't get high only on OW. I've only tried OW, CS:GO and Rocket League so far. Oh yeah and Discord as well. So it's not just Blizzard or Valve servers. Also, only my ping gets affected, download/upload speeds stay decent.
Now I realized something strange with Discord. My ping on Discord would only get high when I play an online game. For example I can launch Overwatch and stay at the main menu; no issue on Discord. As soon as I join an online game, my ping gets high on Discord. Tried to run a 'ping -t 8.8.8.8' command and it shows exactly this. Ping is normal until I join an online game. Same thing happens with Rocket League and CS:GO. Screenshot when I'm just at the main menu of Overwatch -excuse my french PowerShell. Screenshot when I'm in an online game -note that I usually go in Training Mode in OW as it's way faster than launching a private game on Rocket League or CS:GO. Speedtest when I'm in an online game -Note that only my ping is affected, speeds are always the same.
Now I know it looks like my PC is at fault here, and I wish that was the case. But check this. I've tried to run the same ping 8.8.8.8 command on another PC I have in my house (which is connected via Ethernet) and obviously it has fine a response time. However, if I launch an online game (OW training mode, for example) on my own PC and then ping 8.8.8.8 on the other PC, it has a very high response time. Similar to what I get on my own PC.
I really wish it was my PC but it actually looks like my internet modem has some issue. I'm not sure why though as the issue appeared out of nowhere. I checked my modem settings and everything is fine. I can provide informations on my modem if you wish (frequencies, etc.) but please remember I'm not in the U.S. so maybe some settings are different here. I should add that I ran mutliple MalwareBytes analyzes and it didn't catch anything.
So, anybody know anything I could do on my end to try and fix this. Anything I could do before contacting my ISP who just sucks.
