I have an Asus Maximus VI Formula. And this post will probably be quite lengthy...
About a year ago we had the power go out in my house. After that, the computer started to act strange when booting up. It would light up and then shut down about 5 times before it eventually stay on.
After awhile, it wouldn’t boot at all if the computer restarted or was shut down until I reset the CMOS. It would do the shut down and turn on thing a few times, and stay on (fans on and running, leds working) but there would be no power to the keyboard or monitor. After resetting the CMOS it was slow to boot but would stay on unless the computer was shut down.
We replaced the GPU and PSU but no change.
After coming back from vacation I tried to turn it on but even with resetting the CMOS it didn’t light up the keyboard or send a signal to the monitor.
I took a look again and noticed the DRAM LED was lit red on the motherboard. I disconnected power, put on my ESD bracelet and tried the first stick of RAM in every slot, and then the second stick. No change even after pressing the Memory OK button.
So I decided to try and flash the BIOS and put both RAM sticks back into the Mobo.
After that, the DRAM LED no longer was lit, but the VGA light was lit. Same behavior as before.
So I removed my GPU. This time, the Pc only shut down once before starting and staying on and My keyboard lit up, but still no signal to the monitor (and I plugged it into the mobo hdmi slot.) I could tell that Windows had loaded because I plugged in my phone to a USB port and an alert came up on my screen of my phone asking me to trust the computer.
I know it’s not the monitor or the HDMI cable as those work when connected to other devices.
At this point, I have to think the Motherboard is the root cause but can you think of anything else I can try?
