So for the last couple of months, I've been getting DoS attack: TCP- or UDP-based Port Scan, logs from my router. I've been stumped on what I should do. Because the attacking address is my ISP's dns, which couldn't possibly be right. My first reaction was to wipe my computer, delete and rebuild the mbr. And just for extra testing, I installed linux with my computer once I reinstalled windows 7. (my computer is a toshiba laptop c655-s5305. I can't just go buy a new laptop as I'm pretty much stuck with it) But I was able to find out that two devices are infected with this virus. After changing the DNS on my computer to use the cloud flair DNS. The attacking address changed from my ISP's DNS to cloud flare's DNS. And there is another device that is on my network (haven't figured out which one just yet) That is also infected with what ever it is since there is a second attacking address which appears as a source from my ISP. And my router is a nighthawk c7000-100nas. Which has also proved another quite frustrating situation. As my ISP hasn't clearly updated the firmware on the darn thing. And because it's my own router, Cox, my isp, might just decide to not update it since it's not their router even if I called. But I'm under the impression that my problem sources from A:my laptop and what ever device like I said before is infected with some type of bios virus/malware/bug. B:My router is being attacked due to a firmware virus/bug C: It's just some asshole kid But the problem is though is that, these attacks have been going on for more than three months. So C feels unlikely to me. And B feels unlikely but more plausible. But since the router would have no reason to state two different ip's attacking the public ip address, and coincidentally changing my computers dns causes the dns to change on the router log of the attacker. AND this happening in a Linux environment. So right now I'm at a complete utter loss on what I can do.
