Couldnt think of a better title.
So i have fiber internet 100 with ATT. I notice the wifi is slow at times and a couple nights ago, it wasnt working at all. I restarted the router which did not work at all. It some how came back on it own and several minutes later it went out again.
Now because it is fiber, optimal location for it is limited. Right now it is downstairs beside a couch. I have a desktop upstairs and today is the first time I noticed the wifi was working well. I used the att app and it was telling me the desktop was too far. I figured this, but it was able to connect just fine before.
I have an old router. I heard u can still use it. I looked online and it seem you can use it as an access point, wifi repeater, and a wifi bridge. Im confused as to what these are, therefore i cant follow the directions to make it as a wifi repeater. The site told me to login to the router and configure settings. I was able to do that. Im assuming because i dont have that router hooked up for wifi.
So essentially i need to desktop upstairs to connect to the internet with no issues. I also have this. I dont know what it is. I originally thought it was a router until i took a closer look.
Edit: typos. Added link. I think i might see the problem. Ill continue researching until i get a response.
Edit 2: I was able to log into the router admin by hooking an ethernet cable to my pc downstairs. I added the current router MAC address like this site said to. Now its wanting me to go to another site to download DD-WRT.
