This one is gonna be a bit long while i try to explain everything, so bear with me.
So, i had windows 10 and linux Mint 18 installed on the same 1tb hard disk, split in half. Obviously linux was first in grub boot option. Over the night i let my steam games update, since i have limited bandwidth during the day. Over the night windows updated itself, restarted itself and it booted to linux, wich resolved in BSODs. There were a few different ones but maintly it was 0xc000021. Usually it's not a problem for me to solve such things, but this one got me.
First thing i did was i backed up important files/saves to my second hard drive wich is for important stuff only. Then i made a live usb with windows on it, wanted to try boot repair. Usb gave bsod as well. Then my linux wouldn't boot either, wich is not a problem. I created a second live usb with Kubuntu on it. At this point i started to suspect my hard disk was dying. But i booted the live usb and ran smartctl and badblocks and health was good and every single block of 1tb hard drive was good (it took quite alot of time actually). Then i went to install kubuntu wich went great, installed drivers and all. Then i tried windows again and it actually booted the live usb, i wiped the old NTFS partition and installed eveything anew, it was working. But as soon as i wanted to install my MSI motherboard drivers, i had a BSOD again and i couldn't get past it. Then i booted the kubuntu live usb again, and formatted the whole hard disk with dd, to make sure it's fully and cleanly formatted. But still i couldn't get the damn windows live usb to even start setup, before showing anything it BSODs everytime. Every.damn.time. i tried updating bios drivers. I tried multiple windows images. Different usbs. Even created a usb with startup disk creator. Rufus too. Now i'm gonna try unetbootin but i doubt that will do any help. I am loosing my mind here. Please if anyone has any idea i would appreciate beyond belief.
TLDR:
- had windows/linux installed in a dual boot -windows updated itself during the night, breaking everything because it didn't boot properly -Bsods all around, even on a clean formatted hard disk live usb BSODs.
