The former secretary of state warns about the president in her new book on fascism.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is on a book tour promoting Fascism: A Warning, and she isn't pulling any punches.
In an interview with Fox News' "The Daily Briefing" with Dana Perino, she explained why she thinks President Donald Trump has less respect for democratic norms than any other president she can remember.
"What do you mean by that?" Perino asked. "America's democracy still seems very strong. But what are your concerns?"
"I am concerned about various elements [of democracy] that he seems to ignore," said Albright. "I'm a great believer in the freedom of the press. I think it's very important."
She criticized Trump for his attacking of the media as the "enemy of the people," a phrase she said "bothers" her.
"It's being picked up by other countries," she said. "That's what [Prime Minister Viktor] Orbán, in Hungary, is saying."
Albright also said that Trump doesn't understand the importance of governmental institutions that are meant to keep him in check.
"It concerns me that he acts as though he's above the law," she said.
