The president's open hypocrisy was too much for the anchor.
Fox News host Shep Smith on Wednesday noted that although President Donald Trump’s tweet announcement of his plan to strike Syria may be “historic,” it also breaks a promise the president himself made about military action.
“President Trump’s tweet saying that a strike in Syria is coming — because that’s what he tweeted — comes after he said in the past that he would not give advance notice of military action,” Smith said, rolling a clip of the president saying “America’s enemies must never know our plans or believe they can wait us out.”
“I will not say when we are going to attack,” Trump said in the clip from August 21, 2017. “But attack we will.”
“Well, today’s tweet said the attack is coming,” Smith said, “but didn’t say when the missiles would be launching.”
