Republicans have claimed that the texts show bias against President Trump within the FBI.

Newly released texts from two FBI officials who have become controversial for their involvement in the investigations of both President Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton show the pair's reactions to the firing of former bureau Director James Comey and the hiring of special counsel Robert Mueller, according to a new CNN report.

Peter Strzok and Lisa Page both worked on the Trump and Clinton probes as part of their work in the FBI, which became a flashpoint in partisan debates about the bureau when it was revealed that they had exchanged messages that were critical of the president. The pair, who were allegedly also engaged in an affair, criticized Democrats and Republicans, but their harsh words about Trump sparked the most ire in right-wing media.

The new messages, obtained by CNN, show that the pair were distraught when Trump fired Comey in May 2017. In one section of the exchange they say:

"Having a tough time processing tonight, Lis. Feeling a profound sense of loss," Strzok writes to Page a couple days after Comey was fired.
"I feel that same loss. I want to see what the FBI could become under him! His vision of greatness for our strong but flawed organization. I'm angry. Angry and mourning," Page responds.

In another, Strzok encouraged Page to go work for Mueller once he was appointed.

Strzok was reportedly removed from the Mueller probe after he discovered the texts, and Page had already been reassigned away from the investigation.
