So, first of all, I'm not particularly tech-savvy.
Got a cheap 32gb Lenovo laptop (Ideapad 100S). Didn't need anything bigger as it's mostly for web surfing and writing. I figured it'd do just fine. And despite Windows taking up ~25 of those 32 gigs of space, it did. Until Windows started insisting on a 10gb update. It got annoying.
So, I figured I'd install Lubuntu.
Downloaded 17.10 and everything went fine. After installation (from usb) was finished it told me it needed to restart. No problemo. So I did.
And then nothing. There's a backlit black screen and nothing happens. I can still boot. But that's it. There's no Lenovo startup screen. Nothing.
Google around on my phone and find something about 17.10 bricking Lenovos. Crap. Read that I should just install 16.04 instead. Okidoke. Do that.
Same thing happens. Installs just fine, asks me to restart, restarts, black.
Anything I can do? Apart from in the future stop screwing around with stuff I have no idea how works, of course.
